One Tree Hill
The name One Tree Hill originates from a single prominent gum tree that once stood near the original inn, about 3 km from the present township. After the tree was lost to fire in 1890, five trees were planted to mark its location—still visible today at the corner of Walter Road and Black Top Road.
By 1858, the growing settlement supported a general store and post office, and by 1864 a small but active community of tradespeople and farming families had taken shape. Early institutions, including the Precolumb school of the 1850s, served both educational and social purposes, laying the foundations for a close-knit rural community.
